Nissan Patrol Y62
Tire pressure UAE guide
The Patrol Y62 is the unofficial UAE 4×4 — half the dune-bashing community drives one. This is the complete PSI reference: door jamb spec to extreme Liwa numbers, every terrain that matters.
The Patrol Y62 door jamb spec
According to Nissan's official door-jamb sticker on Patrol Y62 models (LE/SE/Platinum, 2010-present), the recommended cold tire pressure is:
- Front: 35 PSI (240 kPa, 2.4 bar)
- Rear: 35 PSI (240 kPa, 2.4 bar)
This applies to the stock OEM tire sizes typically fitted: 275/60R20 (Platinum/LE) or 275/65R18 (SE). Check your door jamb sticker for your specific configuration — modified Patrols with aftermarket tire sizes (37"+ off-road tires) may have different recommendations.
For UAE conditions specifically, the 35 PSI cold spec accounts for our extreme summer temperatures. Hot-running pressure on a 50°C day will rise 4-6 PSI naturally — this is expected and accounted for in the design.

Why Patrol Y62 owners love these numbers
The Patrol Y62 has unique characteristics that affect PSI choices:
- Heavy curb weight (~2,800 kg) — needs MORE PSI on highway for load support, LESS on sand for flotation
- Hydraulic Body Motion Control (HBMC) — makes the Patrol forgive PSI choices that would unsettle other 4×4s
- 5.6L V8 (VK56VD) — torque-rich engine means you can climb on slightly higher PSI than rivals
- Long wheelbase — better for sand crossing at moderate PSI, weaker for tight rock crawl
- Stock tires are highway-biased — most serious UAE owners upgrade to AT or MT tires which change PSI strategy
Stock tires vs upgraded tires
Most Patrol Y62 owners in UAE eventually upgrade off the stock highway-biased tires. Common upgrades:
| Tire Type | Highway PSI | Sand PSI | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stock OEM (275/60R20) | 35 PSI | 12-14 PSI | Good highway, weak sand |
| All-Terrain (BFG KO2 285/65R20) | 34 PSI | 11-13 PSI | Best balanced choice |
| Mud-Terrain (Cooper STT Pro 35x12.5) | 33 PSI | 10-12 PSI | Aggressive, noisy |
| Sand-specific (Yokohama Geolandar AT) | 34 PSI | 10-12 PSI | Soft sidewall optimized |
Common Patrol Y62 PSI mistakes UAE owners make
- Running 32 PSI on highway. Common sense says "32 is normal" but Patrol Y62 spec is 35. Lower pressure = poor handling, premature wear on heavy SUV.
- Skipping deflation entirely on Friday dune trips. Trying to do Big Red at 35 PSI = stuck within 50m. Always deflate before sand.
- Going below 8 PSI without beadlocks. Patrol Y62 has heavy weight that puts more side load on tire beads. Without beadlocks, 10 PSI is your practical floor.
- Forgetting to re-inflate before driving home. 12 PSI on E11 highway = blown tire risk + ruined sidewalls. Always re-inflate to 35 before tarmac.
- Following YouTube videos with different vehicles. American Wrangler PSI advice doesn't apply to a Patrol Y62 in UAE conditions. The Patrol is heavier and our sand is different.
The CTIS angle for Patrol Y62 owners
The Patrol Y62 is the single most common vehicle TireCommand installs CTIS on in UAE. Here's why:
- Trip frequency — Patrol owners average 3-5 dune trips per month in winter season
- Deflation friction — 25-30 minutes manual deflation per Liwa trip, often in 50°C heat
- Time math — 30 trips × 50 min PSI handling = 25 hours of weekend time per year
- Tire investment — most Patrol Y62 owners run AED 6,000-12,000 tire sets; CTIS protects them from heat damage during slow manual deflation
- App control — Patrol Y62 owners are tech-forward (the vehicle has all the tech). CTIS fits the lifestyle.
A Patrol Y62 install takes us 8-12 hours, flat AED 11,999 with 2-year warranty on parts and labour.

FAQ — Patrol Y62 PSI
What's the door jamb PSI for Patrol Y62?
35 PSI (240 kPa) front and rear for stock tire sizes (275/60R20 or 275/65R18). Always confirm against your specific door sticker.
What PSI for Big Red dune?
Patrol Y62 at Big Red: 12-13 PSI for outer slopes, 10 PSI for the steep central face, 8 PSI with beadlocks for back bowls.
What PSI for Liwa Moreeb?
7-8 PSI for lower-mid sections, 5-6 PSI with beadlocks for full summit attempts. Without beadlocks, 10 PSI is your floor.
Can I run 30 PSI on highway?
Not recommended for daily driving. The Patrol Y62 is heavy (~2,800 kg), under-inflation causes excessive sidewall flex, poor handling, and tire wear. Stay at the 35 PSI door spec.
Should I install CTIS on my Patrol?
If you dune-bash regularly (2+ trips per month), yes. CTIS removes the biggest friction of Patrol Y62 ownership — manual deflation. AED 11,999 flat install with TireCommand.
